Adding Data
Add Data from Any Source Accurately with Speed and Ease
Dealing with large complex aircraft models involves adding thousands of data points and values, either from spreadsheets, or outputs from other tools, such as CFD. Manually transcribing these values is prone to error and can take an excessive amount of time.
For these reasons, j2 Builder offers multiple error-proof ways of entering data. All data is added through the Properties Window. This is a context sensitive window that changes as different items within the model structure are selected.
Copy and Paste
All parameter types can have values pasted directly into the Properties Window.
When working with tables – even a 3D table –j2 Builder makes it possible to copy and paste all data straight from the original source. The values of the independent variable breakpoints are pasted into their place holders, creating multiple grids to be populated. The results can be pasted into each grid separately, or across all grids directly. The results can even be transposed as part of the paste.
To ensure the tables are created correctly, they can be viewed as charts. This cross-checking is part of the validation process.
Importing Parameters
Once a model hierarchical structure has been assembled, it is possible to fully populate all variables through an import process. The import file can be constructed from existing data tables and then imported onto the model. The data is first checked to ensure it fits on the model correctly and the user is notified of any issues.
If there are no errors, the data is imported and the model populated.
Import Model
If desired, the whole aircraft can be imported from an XML file. This file enables the hierarchical structure to be maintained, with all connections and links imported at the same time. This feature is especially useful when transferring models from different systems and means that a model can be created on a new system in minutes. This can be a valuable feature in protecting knowledge when dealing with older models and legacy coded models that can no longer be supported.
Copy and Paste Items
Any Structural Items from existing models can be copied and pasted into a new model or onto the same model. This allows a library of standard parts to be created, with all values populated, and the parts can rapidly be added to a new model.
Alternatively, a component can be populated on an existing model and then copied and pasted to a new location. This is extremely useful when dealing with multiple engines or components such as batteries or undercarriage that are re-used on the model.
These items can be developed for one and then copied and pasted and the relative location changed. The model is automatically updated without the need to write code or add any further information.
